April 6, 2007, Newsletter Issue #58: After Technical School

Tip of the Week

Once you have gotten basic training and technical school taken care of, there is usually a chance to take some leave before going to your first assignment. Some people don't do this, they plunge headfirst into their new military life. While this is admirable, it's not reccomended for many reasons; the most important is your family! You've been away for a long time and they will want to see the 'new you' especially if you are going overseas for your first assignment.

Don't pass up a chance to take time to unwind, relax and catch up with everyone before going into your very first job in the U.S. military. What awaits you is on-the-job training, a new set of rules and guidelines to follow and much study and hard work. It's best to go into this new phase of your life well-rested and focused. The time between technical school and your first assignment is also traditionally a chance for you to settle into your new life as a military member.Your friends and family need a little time to adjust to your new life, too! Life and work on a military base can be demanding, don't pass up a chance to rest before going into the thick of things.
