May 19, 2006, Newsletter Issue #16: Locate a Sailor

Tip of the Week

The U.S. Navy offers a Navy locator service similar to the Army, with one notable exception. If you are looking for an active duty or retired member of the Navy, mail a request for information and a check for $3.50, payable to the U.S. Treasurer, to the address below with as much information as you can write in the cover letter--social security number, date of birth, hometown and state, the last base you remember the member serving at, etc.

The address: Navy World Wide Locator Navy Personnel Command PERS 312E2 5720 Integrity Drive Millington, TN 38055-3120 Family members aren't required to pay the $3.50 fee, and one interesting feature of the Navy locator service is an offer to forward mail to addresses which cannot be released due to the Privacy Act. Each case is handled indivudually, and it's best not to assume you can get this kind of special service automatically. There is a toll-free number to call for more Navy locator information: 1-866-827-5672.
