January 12, 2007, Newsletter Issue #46: The Office of the Inspector General, Part Two

Tip of the Week

The U.S. armed forces have channels to report discrimination and sexual harassment. Once the Inspector General's office gets involved, an investigation is required. Once the investigation is over, there are many courses of action that could be reccomended depending on the severity of the complaint. One important factor to remember: while the investigation comes to a close at some point, there's no real "case closed".

If the conditions that caused the original complaint return over time, you have every right to start the entire process over until the hostile work environment ceases to be so. The U.S. armed forces have a zero tolerance policy towards discrimination and harassment, and until these are eliminated from the work place, there is no such thing as "case closed" regardless of military rank, seniority or job description.
